Eduardo VIII abdicou para casar-se com a plebéia divorciada Wallis Simpson .Os príncipes estavam no Brasil em viagem oficial. Por isso, a casa que havia sido construída para ser a residência do superintendente foi transformada em escritório central. Foram construídas casas em três novos quarteirões da cidade. Foi para Ourinhos em 1929, e assumiu a superintendência da estrada de ferro em 1932, posto no qual permaneceu até a encampação, em 1944 . Sua esposa Marjory faleceu muito jovem, no início dos anos 1940. Ele integrou-se ao cotidiano da pequena cidade, tendo sido um estimuladores da construção da Santa Casa local e um dos fundadores do Rotary Clube. Em depoimento por escrito ao jornalista Jefferson Del Rios, em 1986, pouco tempo antes de morrer, em Camberley, Inglaterra, ele falou sobre antigos companheiros de trabalho :"Com orgulho, posso dizer que nos anos de 1932 até 1944, em que eu era superintendente da Companhia Ferroviária São Paulo-Paraná, se a operação da estrada foi um grande sucesso, foi devido à leal cooperação e dedicação ao trabalho que recebi de todos os empregados da estrada, e a todos devo o meu sincero muito obrigado".(Jefferson Del Rios - Ourinhos: memórias de uma cidade paulista).&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:georgia;font-size:100%;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:courier new;font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt; D. Hamilton. Conforme depoimento do drº Wallace Morton, segundo superintendente da ferrovia, Hamilton encontrou em Ourinhos "um bom grupo de ferroviários": Hermínio Socci, chefes de tráfego; Carlo Devienne, chefe de movimento. Oswaldo Pareto Torres, chefe de escritório; Humberto Formey, chefe das oficinas e Benedito Monteiro, contador. Para escoar mais rapidamente esse café, ele e outros fazendeiros locais decidem construir uma estrada de ferro ligando suas terras a Ourinhos, por onde passava a Estrada de Ferro Sorocabana. Desse modo, a produção seguiria para o principal porto do país, o de Santos Fundaram, assim, a Estrada de Ferro Noroeste do Paraná, denominação depois alterada para Companhia Ferroviária São Paulo-Paraná. O trecho inicial ligando Cambará a Ourinhos teve início em 1923 (29 km). Os custos eram enormes requerendo mais recursos. Em 1924, estava no Brasil uma missão inglesa, trazida pelo Presidente Artur Bernardes, com a finalidade de estudar a situação econômica e comercial do país. Integrava essa comissão, Simon Joseph Lovat, diretor da Sudan Cotton Plantation Syndicate, na condição de assessor para assuntos de agricultura e florestamentos. Como empresário que era, sua atenção também se voltava para a possibilidade de novos empreendimentos. Desse modo, acabou sendo atraído por uma matéria publicada no jornal "O Estado de S. Paulo" (14-1-1924), na qual a diretoria da estrada de ferro situada entre Cambará e Ourinhos historiava a empreitada que fizera e louvava os lucros certos que o negócio acarretaria. Lorde Louvat, atraído pelo que lera, foi visitar a região., onde deslumbrou-se com o que vira. Retornando à Inglaterra, lorde Lovat e seus sócios no Sudão fundaram a "Brazil Plantations Syndicate Ltda". Foi constituída uma subsidiária brasileira com o nome de Companhia de Terras Norte do Paraná (1925). Em 1928, a Companhia de Terras Norte do Paraná , respondendo a um pedido de financiamento feito pela Companhia Ferroviária São Paulo-Paraná, propõe a aquisição da maioria de suas ações. Desse modo, em 30 de junho de 1928, a Companhia Ferroviária São Paulo-Paraná passa para mãos inglesas, e Ourinhos viria a ser a sua sede.&lt;br /&gt;Meu avô paterno, José das Neves Junior, português da Ilha da Madeira, radicado na região de Araraquara, estava com 21 anos de idade em 1910 e acabara de constituir família. Atraído pela expansão do café na divisa de São Paulo com o Paraná, incentiva um grupo de amigos a vir para essa região. Seria uma oportunidade e tanto para "fazer a América". Foram , então, para a região de Ourinhos-Cambará para empreitar a plantação de café. Os primos de meu pai, Carlos Eduardo Devienne e Benedito Monteiro, já com larga experiência em ferrovia, atenderam à chamada da "São Paulo-Paraná", vindo para Ourinhos em 1924.
